Scoring
In an ever continuing effort to better my review process, I’ve decided to alter my scoring system. Last year I changed from using a numerical value, which I felt was a bit too vague, to something like a school grades ranging from A to F. However, that wasn’t cutting it for me either. Scoring an experience with a number or letter felt, to me, is still one step away from what you really want to know; Is the game any good? And without having to constantly remind everyone that scores are platform, genre and title specific, rating, say, a PS3 game the same as an iPhone release felt a little unbalanced. But I do think scores are important for reviews, even more so in this day and age where every mobile device has some form of internet and referring to a review while waiting to pay for the game in question needs to be a speedy process. So without further ado, here is my new system:
Awesome
An outstanding experience that goes above and beyond expectations.
Great
A highly commendable game with some truly exceptional moments.
Good
Entertaining and worthy of your time but still room for improvement.
Okay
But not a lot more. Hardcore fans of the franchise/genre maybe a little more forgiving of its issues.
Mediocre
Little can salvage this game though there are hints of fun to be found.
Weak
Best left alone.
